About
Why The Patient University?
Because one secret to asking questions, is knowing what questions to ask. There are too many patients and families struggling with similar healthcare system related issues.
This is what prompted the development of The Patient University™ and “Tools with Information©”
For patients and families needing to solve problems, learning how healthcare works and getting answers when they are in a hospital, a doctor’s office, clinic, or any healthcare facility.
It is all about developing knowledge and building confidence necessary to ask essential questions and how to go about obtaining useful information. We call this “Healthcare Navigation”. It is our sincere belief and goal to give patients/families insight, tools, and knowledge regarding healthcare, in order to become empowered.
A Point That Cannot Be Overemphasized
It is common knowledge that the more engaged a patient/family, the safer they become. Engaged in this context signifies interaction and participation. Healthcare is not a spectator sport. It is a give and take. The only problem, no instruction manual for how to be a patient. Where is the rule book? Too many patients/families are struggling with the same healthcare issues. Many of the same questions, concerns, and emotions are recurrent throughout the entire healthcare system. This doesn’t seem possible, but it’s inherent. There is no department that will take you by the hand and lead through a system that was not designed from the patient up. Healthcare is a conglomeration of a series of silos all with their own plans. It’s no wonder patients/families feel they are floating around within this system feeling lost.
We Know What You Are Thinking
The whole idea of “learning” about one’s healthcare might seem a bit overwhelming, at first. This is why our website is designed for general public use, not healthcare professionals, per se. Anyone can learn, and at your own pace. You take away what you need. If you need further assistance, you can always schedule a one-on-one phone or in person consultation.
What to expect
Self-paced information about healthcare with tools available for you to read, review and download. For example, going to the emergency room. We explain the process, what you should expect, what to bring, what not to bring. We have quick tip tools that will help prompt questions, so you don’t forget them. How many times have you forgotten to ask a question and before you know it, you remember it on the way home?

Our Mission: Empowering You
What is “healthcare navigation” and why do I need to know it?
“Healthcare” is a broad term for describing a very unique and personal experience. From a quick minor visit at a clinic to a hospitalization, the spectrum is vast and at times overwhelming for patients and their families. People can find themselves in the middle of an enormous system with many fears, questions, and feelings of helplessness. One way to overcome this obstacle is to become an active participant in one’s own healthcare. Unfortunately, it doesn’t come with an owner’s manual, until now.
Our Mission
Our mission at The Patient University™ is to teach people the tools that will help them navigate and understand healthcare. In general, these tools will help you learn how the system works, how to access helpful information, how to prepare yourself and we
explain the importance.
The Purpose
It is long accepted general knowledge that patients who are engaged, and are participating in their healthcare, are safer. In other words, knowledge is useful, especially when it comes to your health. This knowledge is what serves as empowerment. The more you know, the better off you become. The challenge is what information should you know and how should you use it. That is what The Patient University™ is all about-teaching you the ins and outs of healthcare and what you can do to get yourself prepared, informed and engaged. By engaging in activities at THE PATIENT UNIVERSITY ™, we hope that you will go away with knowledge you can use.
